Last spring, WiB was approached by Jackie Mordaunt, the Executive Director for Susan G. Komen for the Cure WNY, and asked to sponsor and plan a breakfast for breast cancer survivors prior to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer run in Buffalo. We were very honored and excited about this event. However, with only two weeks notice and no funds, we knew this job was too much for us to commit to. So WiB has spent the past year fundraising and preparing for this years survivor breakfast! Our Vice President, Katrina Zografos, has acted as the liaison between WiB and the Komen Committee and has also taken the lead on WiB’s end to make this event happen.
The details:
Who: 500 breast cancer survivors
What: Providing breakfast for the survivors before the 5k race, Marathon for a Cure. WiB will also be providing decorations and favors for the survivors.
Where: Delaware Park
When: Saturday June 11th 2011
For more information about Marathon for a Cure, visit the Susan G. Komen website.
WiB has been fortunate enough to receive support from Students for the Pink Ribbon. Students for the Pink Ribbon is a non for profit organization being run by students in Dr.Ji-Hee Kim’s ENT 315 class at Canisius College. Their goal is to raise money to help WiB fund the Survivor’s Breakfast. Based on their facebook group fan page,(Click here to be a fan!) “Students for the Pink Ribbon will be holding events throughout Canisius College’s Campus in order to raise money for the event.”
WiB hopes to involve the entire Canisius Community in this race. We are currently working with other groups on campus to provide volunteers and services for the race. WiB is also looking forward to creating a large team to run or walk the race specifically for members of the Canisius Community.
